55 MPG Hybrid Jaguar Could Be in the Works

Posted: 18 May 2010 03:22 PM PDT

CAR Magazine in the UK says they have confirmed Jaguar will launch its own hybrid vehicles somewhat soon. Don’t get too excited yet, however, as this one clearly falls in the realm of ‘rumor’ right now. Tata Motors, the parent company of both Jaguar and Land Rover, has already announced big plans for the electrification and hybridization of the Land Rover lineup, so it only makes sense for them to apply the same principles to Jags.

New Compact Land Rover Crossover to Get Diesel Hybrid in 2013

Posted: 18 May 2010 03:10 PM PDT

The Land Rover LRX concept has been a subject of much speculation and critique over the past few years. For a company such as Land Rover, the LRX represents a huge departure from what they’ve been associated with for decades — an attempt to appeal to a younger, broader crowd and meet the ever increasingly strict global fuel economy standards.

Now Land Rover — who still hasn’t officially dubbed the production model the ‘LRX’ — says that both 2WD and 4WD versions of the vehicle will be on sale in 2011… followed in 2013 by a diesel hybrid.

Posted: 18 May 2010 11:59 AM PDT

It’s been a whirlwind of EV news for Hawaii recently. As we already knew, they’ll be getting Better Place’s battery swapping technology, an electric car factory and they were just listed as one of the first areas you’ll be able to buy a Nissan LEAF when it goes on sale at the end of this year.

Now potential plug-in customers in the island nation have another huge reason to celebrate: a cash rebate worth 20% of the price of a new, highway-capable, battery electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle… up to $4,500 total.

So any electric vehicle over $22,500 will qualify for the full amount? I’m sold.

The Inaugural TTXGP US Race: a Killed EV1 Motor Makes a Comeback

Posted: 18 May 2010 09:01 AM PDT

While most of San Francisco was running across town in silly outfits, history was being made a few miles north, at Infineon Raceway. The tech industry isn't just buying naming rights to racetracks, some might say it's poised to take over racing as we know it. While gas-powered engine technology is mature and only making incremental changes (many of which involve increased use of "electronics"- EFI, traction control, remote engine management), Azhar Hussain, TTXGP’s founder, has created a whole new game strictly for electronic motors.

Catching Up With TTXGP’s Founder, Azhar Hussain

Posted: 18 May 2010 08:50 AM PDT

It’s been an exciting weekend at the Infineon Raceway watching the 2010 eGrandPrix, TTXGP. And, after all the bikes were on course, I had some time sit down and talk with Azhar Hussain about the TTXGP series and its importance.

In the following conversation, Hussain talks about how combustion engines are moving towards electric and what kind of system we need to make EVs a lasting part of the equation.
