Scientists Seek Ways to Harvest Fossil Fuel Faster Posted: 19 Jun 2009 09:10 AM PDT Suggestions are floated in the current issue of Industrial Engineering & Chemical Research on the best way to farm living diatoms to turn their oil into a new oil field containing “massive amounts of gasoline.” As previously fossilized fuel supplies dwindle, pinhead-sized diatoms - at the bottom of the food chain - have become the focus of the attention of the rapacious creatures at the top of the food chain. As we humans run out of oil, we have begun to cast about desperately for our new oil supplies. Where better to look than at the tiny creatures who died to make us oil millions of years ago? Lets not wait another million years for currently living diatoms to leave us new oil supplies. Lets extract their oil while they are still alive! |
Detroit Electric Signs Deal to Produce Electric Cars in China Posted: 18 Jun 2009 05:45 PM PDT Wuhan, China, June 19 - Detroit Electric Holdings Ltd and Donfeng Motor Company announced today that the two companies will work together to research, develop, market and sell Pure Electric Vehicles (PEVs) in China using Detroit Electric’s advanced electric drive technology. The agreement will allow Donfeng Motors to test and validate Detroit Electric’s electric drive train technology in order to produce and market Donfeng’s PEVs. The parties are also discussing the possibility of forming a joint venture company, which would manufacture, assemble, produce and supply Detroit Electric’s technology to Donfeng and other auto manufacturers. "This validation process is a major proof point for the technical leadership and commercial readiness of our electric motor drive technology,” said Albert Lam, Detroit Electric’s Chairman and CEO. |
